As a fixture on this blog, I’ll occasionally post about upcoming scholarships. This is the first of many to come!
Ladies and gentlemen, I’d like to introduce you to the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (though perhaps you met previously in our scholarship matchmaker). This fund (HSF for short) is one of the largest scholarship providers in the country—and they award scholarships to thousands of students each year.
The applications for 2013-2014 scholarships will be available starting September 1, and you can apply until December 31.
WHY DO I LIKE THIS SCHOLARSHIP?
HSF has dozens of different scholarships with different eligibility requirements, and you can apply for each one of which you qualify. The best part is that you can apply for all of these scholarships right on HSF’s website.
HSF’s scholarships also tend to be very broad. Basically, if you fall into “minority” or “Hispanic” student status, then you should be able to find a scholarship application for you on HSF’s website.
WHO CAN APPLY FOR THIS SCHOLARSHIP?
HSF has many different scholarships listed on their website, each with their own eligibility. Luckily, once you begin the application process the website has a feature that automatically tells you which scholarships you qualify for based on your answers.
In general, college students should meet the following minimum requirements:
- 3.0 GPA
- Self-identified as Hispanic (even though there are some scholarships on the site for other students of color)
- U.S. Citizenship
WHAT MAKES THIS SCHOLARSHIP AWESOME?
Lots of people win!
Every year around 8,000 students complete HSF scholarship applications—and around 4,000 will win a scholarship. Those are pretty good odds!
I like to think of HSF as the “beginner” scholarship. Once you create an account on HSF’s website, the system will guide you through the eligibility and application process.
WHERE CAN I FIND OUT MORE INFORMATION ABOUT THIS SCHOLARSHIP?
Check it out. You may find a scholarship or two that you can apply for right now…
