Happy (almost) New Year!
If you’re having some trouble finding scholarships with deadlines in January, you’re not alone. Historically, January is a slow month for scholarship deadlines. However, I’ve done some scouting and found three scholarships that I think just about all of my undergraduate readers can apply.
It feels like just yesterday that we were celebrating the fact that world didn’t end in 2012. And yet, pretty soon, we’ll say goodbye to a year that should never have happened (at least, according to the Mayans).
I know many of you made New Year’s resolutions to apply for scholarships. If you haven’t quite met that goal yet, you still have time! Here are some last-chance scholarships with application deadlines in December to help you start 2014 on the right foot.
It’s almost turkey time! I love November because I love Thanksgiving and Black Friday. I also can’t seem to get that Friends episode out of my head. You know, the one where Monica wears a turkey on her head? (Here’s a link, just in case that reference was too much of a throwback for anyone.)
Before you carve the turkey or fight a few old ladies for a toaster oven at Walmart, make some time in your schedule to apply for these scholarships.
Some people think sugary sodas are bad for you. Our tweet of the day found something worse (especially since a soda could give her free tuition). Click through to see what we mean.
I receive many emails from SALT™ Blog readers and have read a lot of your stories. I chose this award as the scholarship of the month because it seems to work well for a lot of our non-traditional readers.
For whatever reason, applying for scholarships is a terrifying process for a lot of students.
I used to imagine that scholarship judges sat around a dark wood table in a dimly lit room (wearing suits and smoking cigars, of course) just laughing at the essays that came across their desks. Luckily, the world isn’t a scene from the movie Boiler Room, and scholarship providers tend to be pretty nice folks.
Applying for a scholarship is a pretty harmless endeavor, and you shouldn’t be afraid to jump right in! Here are three reasons why you should cast your fears aside and push yourself to apply for a scholarship (with some matching GIFs to illustrate each point).
We all know what a “nope” scholarship is—even if you’ve never called it that.
These are the scholarships that, after reading their requirements, you instantaneously say, “NOPE!”
Can you believe that it will be October next month? Pretty soon you’ll be studying for midterms and facing the dilemma of which Halloween costume would be appropriate to wear to finance class.
However, don’t let the month slip by without checking out some of these scholarships.
Even though this scholarship isn’t due until October 15, applications opened on September 1—and I wanted to ensure everyone has enough time to apply.
Applying for and winning a scholarship is all about your attitude. In general, students see scholarships as these prestigious awards that only the best of the best can win. Students idolize scholarships and then convince themselves that somehow they are not good enough to win one.
That attitude alone keeps most students from winning a scholarship. In the words of Henry Ford, “Whether you think you can or you think you can’t—you’re right.”
The reality is, the more you think you aren’t cut out to win a scholarship … the more scholarships you need to apply for. Allow me to explain.
