I recently purchased a new, shiny, purple camera that came in at a cool $250. I was excited, but I was also so shaky that I dropped my debit card as I went to swipe it. Big purchases can be scary, especially when you buy electronics. There are so many choices, and every product is improved and upgraded on what seems like a weekly basis (I imagine a future where my kids will have the iPhone 760 and be floored that I had the iPhone 4).

In the process of researching and purchasing my new camera, I came up with some tips to help you save on your splurges. With Black Friday just a few weeks away, these will definitely come in handy if you want to skip out on the lines.…

There’s no better place to listen to music than on a college campus. Whether that means pumping jams while you work out, firing up some party music, or settling into some studying tunes, it seems like everyone has earbuds or headphones on.

As a result, it feels like music is a necessity for any college student. Fortunately, it’s easy to buy. Perhaps too easy.…

If you read my last post, you may have realized I left a crucial component out: what exactly was I moving to New York City for. The answer: to work in the advertising industry!

Yes, sometimes when nobody is looking, I practice my Don Draper smolder in the mirror. Unfortunately, horribly imitating the famed, fictional Mad Men creative director hasn’t resulted in a salary equivalent to his yet—which I could have really used when looking for a place to live.…

I have some confessions to make.

I have almost no established credit. My boyfriend has bad credit. He’s looking to switch jobs in the near future. I’m a recent college graduate who has not held my job for very long. Oh, and we have a cat.

So, basically, we’re a landlord’s worst nightmare. Of course, we didn’t know this until our application for an apartment we really wanted was rejected.…

What would we do without our gadgets? (You don’t have to answer that if it hurts too much!)

If you’ve ever felt a phantom phone vibration, hallucinated your ringtone in the middle of the day, or couldn’t determine north from south without Google Maps, then you know how integral technology is in our lives. Sure, we spend a big chunk of change on the latest and greatest, but are we getting the most for our money?…

In one of my first SALT™ Blog posts, I wrote about a rather hefty DIY project: stripping and replacing my roof. Now, a year later, that project is more or less complete and I’m on to DIY part deux (admit it, you secretly love that movie).

What was on the agenda this time around? A finished basement—kind of like this one, except not nearly as nice. We started in late February, and with lots of assistance from family, we are about 75% done.

So, what did I learn this time around? Here are a few tips if you’re thinking of undertaking a big DIY project on your home as well.…
